Where is Who We Are part 1? Thanks!
Dear Anonymous,
We will be putting up part one of this series ASAP. We do not have the video of this but we will be putting up the audio. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Tom Randa.
Thanks for letting me know.
What does it mean to keep the Sabbath holy. I have talked with people before trying to figure out what it ment to keep it holy and all i got for a responce was confusion. i got list of things you cant with exceptions to when hyou can do them. I want to know what it is like to keep it holy what kinds of things do you do to keep it holy.
Hey anonymous. I am so glad that you took the time to write. That is a great question. As I stated in our first sermon Holiness is about relationship. So the Sabbath is a time for me to focus totally and completely on Jesus. The text I use to guide me in that is Philippians 4:8. I want all that I do on this day to be about Jesus. Just like my wedding anniversary. I don't watch the football game on that day, (unless I want my wife to get me. LOL) Because that is not what she would like to do. On that day it is all about her. So it is with the Sabbath. Every thing that you do should be surrounding Jesus Christ. Your focus is on Christ and nothing else. I shy away from list, because that can be too legalistic. And then what do we do when we run into a situation that is not on the list. The Sabbath is not meant to be a burden or weigh you down. It is a time to focus on Christ. For some walking in nature and being in God's creation is a good way to do that. The point is that throughout the day you want Christ to be central in all that you do. So whatever I do on Sabbath I ask myself this question, "Is what I am doing keeping me focused on Jesus?" If I can't honestly say yes then I don't do it. I hope that helps. What is neat is this will cause you to really talk to God and ask Him what it is that He would have you do on that day. Again, it is all about a relationship with the person you love the most Jesus.
Hey!! I just want to say what up to Pastor Kelly and to Tom. Great job on the sermon on Sabbath. Keep up the Good work. Well i'll Holla at you guy's later. Have a great day.
PEACE
A couple questions:
In sermon #3 about the Sabbath you mentioned something about God doesnt change His mind... but what happened when God said He would destroy a group of people and ended up saving them... the story of Jonah?
Also I am talking with an ex Adventist and talking back and forth about the Sabbath... Acts 18:4 says that they reasoned in the synagogue wiht teh Jews and Gentiles.... he uses this verse to point out that they werent there to worship on the Sabbath but to teach that Sunday was the right day because in Acts it also mentions them meeting on the first day of the week... What do I say to this or how do I prove that they are actually there to keep the Sabbath holy?
Thanks for doing this series... It is just what I need and I enjoy uploading them to listen to them since I am not from Lincoln... Thanks again and to God be all the Glory!
Hello Iowa Girl. I am so sorry that it has taken so long to respond. My computer crashed and I have been out of town. I have an answer for you and will be back in town on monday to respond. Thank you so much for your question and God's word has a clear answer. Take care and God Bless
Hello Pastor Kelly, first of all, thank you for the awesome Sabbath series. My question is in regards to Colossians 2:16 and how you interpret it? The scripture says, "Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day [NIV]". (Some people use the scripture at hand as a defense to why they should not be judged by what day they observe as the Sabbath).
Hey everyone I just got my computer back from the shop. Whew. It seems like my life was on there. I am going to be answering the questions to the blog on this coming Sunday. Thank you all again for your questions lets keep them coming and studying God's word together.
Hello, I just wanted to say you guys do a good job keeping the website updated with the sermons. However, I see that May 2nd is missing. Is there a reason for that? Will it be uploaded at a later date? Anyway, God bless you and your ministry.
Al Gordon (Palace of Peace SDA Church,Colorado Springs)
Hi Pastor Kelly. Hope you and the family are doing well. I saw sermon 1 and 2 and it was very informative. It clarifies some questions for me. You know that my job is working with at risk youth and for the last two years we have conducted a summit called "Educating Children of Color". Beacuause of the high drop out rate of black boys from school. Everyone on the committee are volunteering our time. The event is held on Saturday for many reasons. What is your opinion on that.
Hey Brother Gordon. It is great to hear from you. I hope you and the family are doing well. I missed you last time I was there for federation. I think that is a great question you have asked. It is very important to understand the spirit of the law as well as the letter. When the Bible tells us in Exodus 20:8-11 that we are not to work on the Sabbath some people can take that too far. For instance technically I work on Sabbath. However, it is a work that is uplifting Christ and the Kingdom of God. I believe that you serving your community and receiving no compensation is in harmony with keeping the Sabbath day. Now I do believe this is an exception and not a rule. When it comes to what we do on the Sabbath day the question we must ask ourselves, "is this something Christ would do on this day?" And if we can say yes then I would go on with it. We look at scripture and see Christ wanted the Pharisees to understand the Sabbath is not a time of bondage. Hence Jesus would heal on the Sabbath. Any opportunity we have to serve and help our fellow man and do the work of Christ so be it. I don't know all that is at the event or what type of things are taking place there, but if that is an opportunity to serve others and show them Jesus then I don't believe that is breaking the Sabbath. Hope that helps.
Pastor Kelly and Family,
So glad you started this blog. I believe God has given you your own special brand of annointing to speak the unadulterated truth. This type of truth should be accessible to the world, and this blog and website does that. Praise God!
To my comment on the Sabbath. I heard the clip you played in part one from TDJ some time ago and realized that he has multiple issues with his theory of worshipping on any day to recognize the sabbath commandment.
1. As you said the main issue is that the commandment is not about worship but about the day God made holy and commanded us to keep holy.(fundamentals)
2. The sabbath is also the day God selected to honor his work as creator and sustainer of all things.. including our lives. To disregard the seventh-day sabbath is to disregard God. Thus, why pray, why call on his name , why even preach. Unless it's all to honor a God who did not create the heaven and the earth. (I won't go there..folk ain't ready but hink about it...)
3. The final issue he has is that he has absolutely no authority to disregard a "thus saith the Lord"
The Jews nor Seventh-day Adventist set this day aside. God did it at creation and once more on Sinai.
We simply can't pick any day we want even if something great happened that day. The reason so many observe Sunday is because of resurrection of Jesus on the first day. They do it to Remember him, but isn't that what he told the disciples to do when he washed their feet and drank and ate bread(Luke 22:19. People want to remember something extra and haven't REMEMBERED the sabbath day, the one commandment that comes with detailed instructions and starts with the word.....you got it. It's like trying to win the spelling bee without knowing your ABC's (fundamentals again)
Besides the sabbath is part of the law and Jesus said it would not change till heaven and earth passed. (Matt 5:18) Last I check the earth is still here, although it will be destroyed by global warming...rather fire(2Peter 3:7). I digress. Where was I.
Ahh yes, we don't allow people to change our birthdays as it is convenient for them. We were born when we were born, no negotiation. Likewise you can't choose to celebrate Independance day on December 25th that was not the day set aside for that purpose. You can but it would be pointless.Don't you think?
Funny we honor mans holi-days better than we do God's holy day.
And I'm through....
Thanks Pastor Kelly. Your response was in line with how I was interpreting the scriptures. Thanks for your wisdom and knowledge. I always consider you an excellent teacher. Keep up the good work you are doing for the Lord. The family is doing just fine. I will be in Riverside at the end of June to visit my family and of course I'll be visiting Rubidoux. Take care of yourself and may the good Lord continue to bless you and your family. Say hi to Sis. Kelly.
Pastor Kelly and Allon Chapel website team:
I just want to take a moment a moment to thank you for the time and effort that you put into getting the weekly sermons online. I have been an Adventist all of my life, and Pastor Kelly, what you are offering is blowing my mind. Your specific gift of ministry is reaching and shaking corners of my life that have been neglected for a very long time. The Lord is using you! Not only do I want you to know, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I consistently tell people in my life of your sermons and the online ministry of Allon Chapel Church. SDA's, non-SDA's, and brand new SDA's are tuning in all the way from North Carolina and we love and appreciate you! You have a following online!!!
We are hanging in the balance for part three of the Sabbath series. Will it be posted? And I was so disappointed when part 4 was cut off before its ending. Is there a way to get to that info also?
So thankful all the way from the East....
Karen Schroer
Hi Karen Schroer,
Sorry for the inconvenience, I was away for pt 3 of the series and even though the sermon was recorded, I can not find the dvd from that day.I will try to see if I can get the audio from brother Cooper. I will also try to put audio for the rest of pt 4 because the dvd did not finalize...
Sorry for the inconvenience to you and everyone else out there. God bless.
No inconvenience my friends! Just hanging on God's word and your teachings!
Blessings to you all!
Karen Schroer
Its PK last month at Allon Chapel but I told him Saturday that this is his blog even after he leaves AC. I was thinking that if you can help me convince him that this is his blog spot he might keep contributing to it. What do you guys think?
I dont like the idea of PK still bloging on Allon Chapel after he leaves. I love the pastor to death but I dont know how comfortable the new pastor will feel when he comes in knowing that another pastor is still in charge in this area. Plus I think the pastor will be very busy going to a church that is 4 to 5 times larger then allon chapel. Thanks for asking what I thought.
Robert Hiles
He can continue with this topic though can't he? It would be nice since he started it.
Wow. Pastor Kelly you will be GREATLY missed. What church will you be going to in California? Anxious to continue to follow your sermons online if possible.
I have so much enjoyed this blog and have been blessed by the questions and comments that have been posted. You all have no idea how comforting and encouraging it is to know that people are studying God's word for themselves. I am thankful that we would like to continue in these various discussions on the truth that is found in God's word. However, I have to agree not sure how the new Pastor would feel about continuing to blog. However, my email address will remain the same and we also do have a website for the new church that God has called us too. mtrubidouxsda.org The services are streamed online live as well as the sermons being archived. So there is still away we can continue these topics comfortably. Although I am thinking about stealing Tom and his team away as they have just done such a tremendous job with Allon Chapel's website. Tom I want you to know that you may not be doing the preaching or singing etc. But what you have done through this website you will be surprised at how many people YOU have lead to Christ when you get to heaven. All because of the time and effort you have put into this website so the Gospel can go to all the world literally. Just FYI I will not be preaching a "farewell" sermon. I have been lead by God to finish up as much of this series as I can before we move. Love you all much. PK
Praise be to God Pr. Kelly. Rebecca and I will miss you. Like the previous Pastor said, 'When God says it is time to go, don't be like Jonah. You gotta go else he will find a way of forcefully taking you there'. Tom
